We spent New Year's Eve at the Hansen's house and after Dallin woke up from his nap we headed downtown to First Night in Salt Lake. We went to Gateway where they had some activities for the kids. At the children's museum Grandma and Mommy made Dallin a sound maker, which Dallin loved to shake and had a blast playing with.
We then went to the Planetarium where Dallin had a lot of fun running from Mars to the Moon.
At 6:00 they had a laser show and a countdown. So we went over to that so Dallin could celebrate ringing in the New Year. He had lots of fun watching the show.
We took Dallin to Temple Square to see the lights, which he loved. He had so much fun, although we were all pretty cold.
After Temple Square we took Dallin to the Trax station to say goodbye. Grandma and Grandpa were kind enough to watch Dallin so Doug and I could go on a real date. After saying bye to Dallin we went back to the Planetarium to watch the U2 laser show. The show was good but it wasn't quite what I thought it would be. We then headed to Olive Garden to enjoy a good meal. When we were all filled up we went to the Assembly Hall and we were able to see a little bit of the Polynesian dancers and then the highlight of the evening, Jon Schmidt. It was an amazing date and we had a blast.
After the show we went to our special spot and enjoyed being together until midnight. 5 years ago Doug proposed at the Salt Lake Temple at midnight. I had no idea and was totally surprised but I said yes and we've had a wonderful life together. We've been through a lot of adventures and we are happy together. It was fun to begin celebrating our 5th year together where it all began. Especially since on our real anniversary we'll be unpacking in Dallas where it really all began.
We were very excited to bring in a new year and have high hopes that it will be better than the last. 2008 was a difficult year for our family, filled with many lows and lucky for us we had a lot of fun and good memories as well. We are excited for our new adventures 2009 will bring and look forward to graduating from law school and moving to Dallas.
