My sister Jamie loves lighthouses and her favorite has always been Cape Hatteras. When we went to the Outer Banks in 1990 we didn't go see Cape Hatteras, and it has always been a sore subject. As we were planning this trip we had to go and do two things, let Grandpa take Dallin to see the Wright Brothers and take Jamie to see Cape Hatteras. We spent a long day in the car, but it was well worth it to see three beautiful structures. I have always loved Lighthouses, not only are they beautiful beacons on the seashore, they light the way for ships in the dark. Lighthouses can be used to help explain how Jesus Christ helps to light our way through troubled times. I know that his light has helped me through many hard times. For me, lighthouses help me to remember that we always have someone in our life who will always guide and direct as we need help during the hard times as well as the good times and that is through our Savior, Jesus Christ.
Currituck, Cape Hatteras, and Bodie
Our first stop on our Lighthouse journey was Currituck Light. I was a beautiful light and surrounded by trees, not quite what I had thought it would be, but it was beautiful anyway. We were greeted by a man who looked like a Lighthouse Keeper. It was like we went back in time when we saw him . . . amazing. We then were able to climb up to the top. It was a long climb to the top and it made me wish I had been using the stair stepper at the gym. Dallin and Doug enjoyed the climb but didn't spend much time at the top. Dallin enjoyed running around by the lighthouse with Daddy and Grandma while everyone else was still in the lighthouse.
This is us enjoying the view atop Currituck.
Our second stop in our Lighthouse Journey was Cape Hatteras. It made Jamie's heart flutter so it was well worth the trip. Jamie enjoyed seeing her favorite lighthouse. It is beautiful and amazing that it even survived being moving from an unstable sandy foundation.
We all had a great time at Cape Hatteras, and as always Dallin loved running around. He was probably just excited that he didn't have to be in the car anymore. It was nice to find someone willing to take a picture of everyone with 3 different cameras. My favorite was when she asked us if were a foster family. We just told her no and explained who everyone was and that we were from Utah. Then she understood why our family was so big. I thought it was really funny.
Our last stop in our Lighthouse Journey was to Bodie Lighthouse. Doug and I both really liked this one. I loved them all but this one was probably my favorite. It was such a photogenic lighthouse. It was a really fun day driving to all the lighthouses especially with Rachel and Brinlee in the backseat to entertain Dallin.
