On Wednesday we met some of my family in Norfolk. Grandpa and Grandma Washington, Aunt Jamie, Kelsie, Rachel, and Brinlee all came to visit us from Utah. We met them in Norfolk and drove to Southern Shores, NC to stay at my uncle's beach house. Before we checked into the beach house we went to Kill Devil Hills, so Grandpa could take his grandchildren to the Wright Brothers Memorial.
Dallin loved having his cousins to play with. He loved Kelsie pushing him in his stroller. She also let him play with her sunglasses. As we were walking over to the markers from the first four flights ever, we thought it would fun for the kids to run to the first marker to see if they could run faster then the plane could fly. The kids had a great time and the kids even got Uncle Doug to join in the fun. They all ran to the first marker a lot faster then the plane. But when they ran back from the 4th marker (when the plane was in the air for 59 seconds) Doug was able to run back in about 45 seconds, Rachel also beat the plane at 56 seconds, Brinlee wasn't far behind at 1 minute 4 seconds, and Kelsie and Dallin came in shortly thereafter (Kelsie was pushing Dallin so you can't blame her). They all had a great time. Dallin loved having Kelsie run while pushing him. When we stopped the races, Dallin kept telling Kelsie, "2 go, 2 go, 2 go," meaning he wanted us to keep saying "1, 2, Go!" so he could keep running.
We all had a great time learning more about the history of flight. The world sure would be a different place without the Wright Brothers. They were very intelligent men that never stopped until they figured out how to fly. My dad loves learning about the Wright Brothers and so I made sure that he was able to take Dallin to Kill Devil Hills before we left North Carolina.
After we climbed to the top of the hill we went to the new Centennial Museum. We all got to be Astronauts for a second. Dallin loved being with his cousins and walking around with them. He didn't like it however when he got too wild and had to get back in his stroller. We had a fun day learning about the History of Flight.
We didn't have time on the first day to go and see the new bronze statue of the first flight, so we went on Friday morning to get some pictures. Some other kids were climbing on the plane and it didn't take long after the "Fun Car" got there for Rachel, Brinlee and Dallin to join in the fun.
Everyone had a fun time on the sculpture. Dallin especially loved being able to run around. Thanks Grandpa and Grandma for taking us to see the Wright Brothers.
