Duke Homestead

This year we went to the Duke Homestead and experienced an Old Fashioned Christmas.  We had a really neat experience.  The Homestead was dark, because it didn't open til around 6:00.  We got there before it opened and waited outside in the cold for a little bit.  Then before our tour we walked around the museum a little and watch some of It's a Wonderful Life.  When it was time for our tour we headed outside and followed a path lit by candles to the Homestead.  When we got to the Homestead we went through three of the rooms.  In the first room we listened to the story, Twas the Night Before Christmas.  In the second room we sang carols with a band, it was really fun to sing Silent Night with the guitars and fiddles in the background.  In the kitchen they were making cider, which we got to enjoy outside by the fire.  They had some sugar cookies, which my boys enjoyed a lot and popped popcorn over the fire.  It was interesting to see how Christmas would have been celebrated in the 1800s.
