Cameron Crazies

Krzyzewskiville Game Day!
Krzyzewskiville 43 days before the big game. The grounds in front of the gym were pretty full and more tents came after that day.
A nice view of Krzyzewskiville with Cameron Indoor Stadium behind it.
All the tents in a line January 2008.
My boys on game day, Dallin had a cute little Duke outfit on but it was too cold so he had to wear his Duke coat as well. It was a very windy day.

Krzyzewskiville was very messy on game day. Three months and a few rainy days prior to game day made it very dirty.

If anyone knows anything about Durham, North Carolina, it's usually Duke Basketball. The most important game of the year, of course, is the Duke-UNC game. Doug was lucky enough to get a ticket for this years big game. He was very excited and went to get in line at 7:45 the night before the game. They certainly have some dedicated fans (which explains the crazy in their nickname, the Cameron Crazies).

The undergraduate students have a walk-up line in order to go to basketball games. The line for the Duke-UNC game started 3 months before the game on Dec. 8, 2007. Yes that date is correct. The first tent spot was marked in December. I remember going to the gym after finals and coming home to ask Doug if people started to camp out already because there was a tarp with garbage cans holding it down. I told him that I thought people were getting ready to camp out for the UNC game. He told me it was too early until he went to the gym the following day to see a tent set up. Before Christmas people were already in line. Crazy, I tell ya, Crazy!!

Fortunately, the grad students don't need to go as early. They have a campout in September and anyone that makes it to all of the check-ins gets their name put into a lottery for season tickets. The LDS Law students camp together and then split the tickets they get so that everyone can be sure to go to some games. The students in the group that actually get their names drawn get to go to the Duke-Carolina game, and Doug was lucky enough to be one of them. As I said, though, he did have to start camping out 25 hours before tip-off. But since they are grad students, they got to sleep inside instead of out in the cold. Going so early paid off, though, as Doug was 4 people away from the Duke bench. Other than Duke losing, he had a great time.
Here is a video from inside the IM Building where the graduate students lined up for the Duke-UNC game.

Austin saw this video and when I explained that they were all waiting to go to a basketball game, he said "cool, I want to go". I thought it was so cute.
