On the Road Again

Tuesday, August 12, 2008 we left Memphis and headed to Nashville.  Wednesday morning we woke up and I got the stomach bug that Doug had in Memphis.  I rested until we had to check out of our hotel then we went to the Parthenon is Nashville because I wanted to do something in Nashville.  We had a wonderful time seeing some beautiful architecture.  When we went inside there was a large statute of the Goddess Athena which Dallin was really scared of.  Dallin clung to Doug or myself because it was so huge and he was a little nervous around it.  As we started walking to a different area he began to calm down.  While we were in the next room Dallin was himself again and tried to climb up a column.  Then he was even more excited when he got to go outside and run around for a little bit before he had to get in the car for a few hours.

The drive to Asheville was long because I didn't feel well but we finally were back in our home state.  Next we had planned to go hiking but I was not feeling well so we just got in the car and headed for home.  It was so nice to be closer to home.  As we parked our car in front of our house, I was relieved, Doug was probably ready to be done driving, and Dallin had a smile on his face as he got out of the car and ran to our house.  Dallin was excited to be home and loved having all of his balls again.  We made it home on August 14 and it was so nice to have our belongings with us and know that they were safe over the summer.  We had a wonderful summer in Texas and are excited to move there after law school, but at this time we are just excited for one more year in North Carolina, at Duke University Law School, and more Duke Basketball.

I just realized that I forgot to explain one important milestone in our lives.  Our reached the 100,000 miles while we were driving back to North Carolina.  I believe that the moment was somewhere in Tennessee but close to North Carolina.  The picture in the slide show is the before and after and then the following picture is of Dallin at 100,000 miles in the Toyota.  Our little car has certainly been good to us and made lots of road trips across the country.  Anyway, I just thought I should explain a little about the pictures from the car and why we took a picture of it.

Melissa - I found your blog through your profile... I just wanted to thank you for letting me know about the glitch with Puppy Dog Tails and to say that I've fixed the problem. Thanks again! (Your little boy is adorable! I hope you don't feel violated that I'm here) ;)

Car trips can be horrible, especially when you don't feel well! No fun! Good that you made it back safely, and that all your stuff was safe. That was probably a good feeling. Wow, only one more year!?! GO Doug! So you are definitely moving back to Dallas after, huh? It's no Spanish Fork, but I guess it'll do. ;)
